OO ER missus, it’s going to be a right carry on at Airedale Hospital!

Emergency Department staff are drawing inspiration from the famous Carry On films for their 2018 charity calendar.

They’ll be evoking the racy 60s atmosphere of naughty nurses and doctors to raise money for Manorlands.

A training room at the Steeton hospital will be transformed as around 20 staff members portray classic characters originally played by the likes of Hattie Jacques, Sid James and Kenneth Williams.

Amina Abu El Hawa, a healthcare support worker in the ED and a keen amateur photographer, will snap enough shenanigans to cover the full 12 months.

Amina, who has worked at Airedale Hospital for about three years, said she originally intended to adopt the theme of superheroes but that had been done before.

She said: “The Carry On pictures will all be tastefully done, slightly cheeky, a bit tongue-in-cheek. We don’t want to annoy people.

“We have training areas where we can recreate the pictures. It won’t be where there are sick people.

“The staff are really excited about it. One of our sisters in the department is quite keen on being Hattie Jacques as the matron.

“A few the young nurses haven’t heard of the Carry On films so I had to show them clips on YouTube.”

Amina said the calendar project was in its early stages.

She said: “We’ve managed to get the printing sorted so in the next month or so we’ll start taking pictures. We’re getting people together try to work out when we can do the shoot.”

Amina took up photography about five years ago and has shot friends’ weddings and christenings, but has not previously created a calendar.

She added: “We’re raising money for Manorlands because it rings a lot of bells for everyone in the Emergency Department. A lot of friends and family have had people in the hospice.”

The hugely-popular Carry On comedies were renowned for their seaside humour and double entendres.

More than 30 films were made between 1958 and 1992, many featuring the same troupe of actors such as Sid James, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor, Peter Butterworth, Hattie Jacques and Terry Scott.

Barbara Windsor, who later played Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders, achieved fame as a young actress in the Carry On films with her character of a lovable blonde.

The Carry On series contains the largest number of films of any British series.
