BEN Rhydding can move closer to promotion from Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League tomorrow when they entertain a Leeds Modernians side that have slipped into the relegation dogfight.

The match includes a fascinating personal duel between Ben Rhydding's Kiwi batsman Shane Wineti, who is the league's leading run scorer with 683, against the top wicket-taker Jarran Cook, who has 45 victims to his name.

Wineti came out on top when the sides met in early June, hitting 115 in his side's 296-6 before Rob Withers took 5-34 to clinch an easy win.

With Modernians having only beaten struggling Thackley in their last five matches, the odds will be on a repeat of that victory and a step closer to promotion.

Cheering Ben Rhydding on will be Addingham and Skipton, who are currently just below Modernians but have the chance of going above them if they win their matches.

Addingham, with Ricky Palacio in wicket-taking form, have a good chance to do the double against out-of-sorts Kirkstall, while Skipton will need to be at their best to overcome Tong Park Esholt and their top bowler Mahir Ali.

If both sides are victorious, Thackley's inevitable relegation could be confirmed with defeat at Steeton.

Hall Park look to make it six wins in a row at home to third-placed Follifoot, while Calverley take on leaders Adel.

Having won six of their last seven games, Otley certainly won't be lacking confidence as they entertain Horsforth – but they know nothing less than maximum points will be enough if they are to bridge the 22-point gap to Division One leaders Beckwithshaw and snatch the title.

In that same period, Burley have lost five matches and their challenge now seems spent.

With four of the division's top run-getters, headed by Jason Wright on 551, Burley certainly have enough firepower to trouble Rawdon. Yet the visitors also have a match-winner in Marcus Berryman and showed in beating Beckwithshaw two weeks ago that they are capable of taking on the best.

Beckwithshaw have certainly looked far less impressive in recent weeks and the chasing pack will hope that Guiseley can at least put a dent in their run to the title.

Ilkley and Pool should have little to trouble them against Colton and North Leeds respectively, who are two of the three sides battling relegation.

Two successive defeats have all but ended Harden's hopes of promotion from Division Three but they would set a few nerves jangling if they could repeat their early-season win over leaders Saltaire.

Second-placed Olicanian should be too strong for perennial strugglers Alwoodley, while Green Lane – who are already 25 points off the promotion spots – face a tough task against a New Rover side that have transformed themselves from their early-season trough.
