PEOPLE are being urged to get on their bikes for Manorlands.

The annual Bronte Mountain Bike Challenge takes place next month, with proceeds going to the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

It is the 13th running of the hugely-popular event, which caters for cyclists of all abilities.

The September 17 challenge is staged in conjunction with the Manorlands cycle events group, and is sponsored by All Terrain Cycles.

There are four routes to choose from, all starting at Oxenhope recreation ground and finishing at the hospice.

Heathcliff is an extreme 35.8-mile course.

Riders will tackle the notorious 'stairs' and cycle across the moors to Widdop, towards Worsthorne and back via a relatively new section of the Pennine bridleway. They will then face the Cock Hill climb and a route over Thornton Moor.

Charlotte is a 28.8-mile route, which includes part of the Heathcliff ride.

Slightly less daunting is the Emily, which covers 22.6 miles and takes in a mixture of tracks, trails and minor roads.

And there's a 15.7-mile ride, Anne, geared towards families and children. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

"There are routes suitable for all standards of mountain bike and cyclo-cross rider," said a spokesman.

"As in 2016, we are offering team entry for groups of four people across all routes.

"Entry fees go towards supporting Manorlands' care in the local area.

"While there is no obligation to raise additional funds through sponsorship, those who raise £50 or more will be entered into a prize draw to win a mystery bike-related prize from our sponsors at All Terrain Cycles."

All participants will receive a medal and hot meal.
