A FAMILY fun day in Keighley with a military theme is due to receive a flypast by iconic Second World War era aircraft.

The event on Saturday September 2, on land locally known as "Tip Top" off North Dean Road, will now incorporate a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. (BBMF)

This organisation has confirmed it will carry out a three-plane flypast along the North Beck Valley as part of the event at around 12.50pm with three passes of the site.

The planes due to take part are a Lancaster bomber, a Hurricane fighter and a Spitfire fighter.

Community worker Pip Gibson is organising the fun day with the 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment and the Cabbage Club together with a team of volunteers, businesses and service providers.

She said: "Local resident, volunteer and BBMF enthusiast David Archer set about organising the flypast a few weeks ago."

Reacting to the news that the aircraft would be available on the day, Mr Archer said: "This is wonderful news, never in our wildest dreams did we expect such a result."

Entertainment will run from noon till 4pm on the Tip Top field off North Dean Road, near the junction with Guardhouse Road.

It will include information and recruitment stands and a range of army-style activities especially focused on young people.

There will be alfresco bistro catering and locally grown produce, a story tent, outdoor cooking, children's horticultural projects, facepainting, tombola and a raffle.
