STEVE Ayers triumphed in the final ten-mile time trial of the season on the Cracoe to Skipton and back course promoted by Bronte Wheelers-Neophix.

There was a strong southerly wind which made the outward journey to Skipton hard going but gave help on the tougher return leg.

The further difficulty for the riders was that the race was for road bikes only with no time trial specific bikes allowed, which slowed the riders by two to three minutes.

However, the outcome was not affected as the winner was Bronte’s Ayers in a time of 23min 5secs.

Second was Bronte’s Darren Caines in 25min 17secs and third was junior Harry James riding for CC Pendle in a time of 25min 29secs.

Fastest veteran on standard was Darren Caines with Ilkley’s Nina Benson second and Bronte’s John Driver third.

The previous weekend saw some excellent results for Bronte Wheelers-Neophix riders, in the Darlington Wheelers 50-mile TT.

Ayers finished second in 1 hour 42min 17secs and Caines broke the two-hour barrier with a splendid 1 hour 59 min 30 secs.

In the VTTA 10 mile TT at Hull, Bronte’s Steve Lloyd clocked 21min 21secs and Bronte’s Peter Stone achieved a personal best of 23min 17secs. All round there were some great results for the club.
