West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Rec Reserves 5 Pool Reserves 1

OXENHOPE seconds gained their first league win of the campaign despite missing a number of regulars.

Several good chances went begging before Ethan Lister ran on to a through ball from Jason McGee, taking the ball past the last defender and blasting home.

Within minutes Oxenhope went two up when Liam McNichol and Will Lee combined in the box for Lee to loft the ball into the top corner.

The home side extended their lead to three when Luke Snowden evaded two challenges and drove a shot into the net from 20 yards.

Oxenhope almost increased their advantage when Snowden picked out Dayne Ward outside the box from a corner. Ward controlled and rifled a shot against the bar.

In the dying minutes of the first half, the visitors pulled a goal back with a well-struck free-kick from long range.

But Oxenhope soon regained the upper hand after the break and should have restored their three-goal advantage when man of the match Lister broke down a counter-attack and played in McGee, whose shot beat the advancing keeper only to strike the post.

It was not until the final quarter that the home side made their pressure count when McNichol jinked his way through four defenders to flick the ball over the keeper and make it four.

Lee then broke from midfield to add a fifth goal after a one-on-one with the keeper.

The victory came after an opening-day 3-2 defeat at Field, who lead the early table, while the reserves drew 1-1 at Hartshead on Monday night.
