MIDFIELDER Abi Lee believes there are plenty of positives for Bradford City Women after they got their first point of the season.

City were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest in what proved to be a feisty encounter, with two Bradford players substituted through injury.

But Lee was proud of her team for their fighting spirit and believes that first win is just around the corner.

“I do think by the end of the game a draw was a fair result,” she said.

“We created a lot more than they did and by the second half we were on top, but obviously there’s the situation where both of our centre-backs have gone off injured.

“If anything, I’d be disappointed if I was Forest for not taking advantage of that.

“But I do think we held our own really well and, a nil-nil, we’ll take that.”

There were few clear-cut chances in the game, though City perhaps had the better of the openings.

A goal-mouth scramble looked certain to see Bradford break the deadlock early on, but Forest threw plenty of bodies in the way to keep the hosts at bay.

Last season’s top-scorer Laura Elford had a couple of half-chances towards the end of the game too, while Forest themselves almost nicked the win in stoppage time, only to hit the side-netting.

Lee could see improvements going forward from their previous outing though, which ended in a 2-0 defeat against Leicester.

“At Leicester, it didn’t quite click for us in the final third. This week it really did,” she said.

“We haven’t scored the goals, but it was looking good and, if anything, from last week we’ve improved on that.”

She continued: “Being a bit more composed in the final third is something we need to work on.

“But it’ll get there, it will. It’s a step in the right direction every week.”

City’s number eight believes there are improvements in the team’s character from last year too, boding well for the campaign ahead.

“I’ve got a good feeling about the season,” Lee said.

“If it had been last season, we’d have let our heads go down because we’ve had two players go off injured.

“But we’ve held our own really well and that’s a bit of something about us for the rest of the campaign.”
