IT was a step back to the swinging sixties when Dementia Friendly Keighley welcomed youngsters from National Citizen Service (NCS), who visited the charity as part of a volunteering day.

The dementia charity – located at Airedale Shopping Centre – spent the day with the NCS group, which consisted of eight 15 to 17 year olds.

Everyone dressed up in their best sixties outfits and a host of activities were put on for the Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) charity members and wider community by the NCS team.

Games included Pin the Tail on the Donkey, arts and crafts and numerous team games.

Sandra Kelly, volunteer for DFK, said: “The day was a huge success. The NCS is such a worthwhile scheme and brings together young people from all different backgrounds to help build skills, confidence and trust through community events.

“We were delighted that NCS wanted to visit us and the effort they put into the whole day was so impressive.

"Everything they brought on the day, including delicious treats and the props for the activities they provided, had been bought by them. We had such an enjoyable time and everyone gave it 100 per cent."

Steve Seymour, Airedale Centre manager, said: “DFK welcomed a group of incredibly enthusiastic young people from the NCS programme, who organised the 60s day’s activities for the charity.

"The group thoroughly enjoyed working with DFK and its visitors, clearly making the most of their time volunteering as well as providing a great day for everyone.

“It was inspiring to see two such worthwhile groups come together for a tremendous and fun day."
