SILSDEN'S exciting FA Vase victory capped off a fine week in which they celebrated two awards following their impressive start to the season.

The Cobbydalers were crowned the Hallmark Security League’s Division One club of month for August, having maintained a 100 per cent start to the campaign which has left them four points clear at the top.

Striker Joe Gaughan also picked up Division One’s player of the month and already has five goals to his name.

Silsden boss Danny Forrest said: “Taking maximum points from the first seven games is a great achievement for any club at any level, but we have to keep our feet on the ground and keep working.

“We’d had a really good pre-season against sides at our level, but we lost our final friendly to a team from lower down the pyramid.

“I’m not sure our good start is all down to the reaction from that one result but it was certainly a factor.

“We worked hard at the gym in Keighley and then got out on the pitch and did lots of training and ball work as part of our pre-season preparation and the lads really bought into it.

“It’s always nice to get a bit of recognition and the club of month has put smiles on the faces of the hard-working committee and volunteers – the people that keep the club going – and the supporters.

“It’s their award really, not the coaches and players, although it is a reward for all the effort and commitment that they’ve also put in.”

Having come from behind to beat Chester-le-Street in the FA Vase on the back of seven straight league wins, Forrest is keen to see his squad continue to flourish and sees no reason why they can't, while admitting it won't always be easy.

“We have to keep on doing what we’ve done in the first seven games,” he said.

“I think that the sky’s the limit for this group. We know that there’ll be tough times and we’ll have to dig deep but I believe that these players have the strength of character and mentality to come through.”
