MANORLANDS fundraisers are urging people to get their tickets quickly for this year's Starlight Hike.

The event, on Saturday, September 30, is on course to be a sell-out.

"The tickets are selling fast," said Hayley Ibbotson, senior community fundraiser at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice and the event organiser.

"We are very excited to be hosting yet another Starlight Hike – they are always so much fun and bring everyone close together."

Among those taking part are Terry and Linda Long.

"We have walked the Starlight Hike a couple of times – but not the current route," said Mr Long.

"My wife and I are both keen walkers so any opportunity to walk in Bronte Country is a gift.

"There is a real team spirit amongst all involved.

"Everyone from participants to volunteers and organisers are friendly and welcoming and there is a buzz about being part of it.

"We support Manorlands because over the years – as local residents – we have experienced friends, family and work colleagues all benefitting from the palliative care provided."

The event starts at Oxenhope Station, where there will be music, stalls, entertainment and a warm-up.

Participants will then board the Starlight Express – courtesy of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, using a train specially re-named for the night – and travel to Oakworth, where the 10km walk will begin.

They will follow a marshalled route through villages and countryside back towards Oxenhope, taking in the Starlight Avenue – within the hospice grounds – where people can hang a star dedicated to the life of a loved one.

Entertainment and refreshments will be provided en route, and at the finish walkers will receive a goody bag and hot sandwich.

Main sponsor of the event is Stirk Lambert & Co accountants, of Keighley.

Tickets are £18 for adults and £5 for under-16s.
