SILSDEN carried their league form into the cup competitions last weekend and extended their 100 per cent start to the season.

After seven straight victories in the Hallmark Security League, which sees them top the Division One table, they also won their first tie in this season's FA Vase.

It was a tough tie but Danny Forrest's men triumphed 3-2 in the north east against Chester-le-Street Town.

"We hope it goes on for a little bit longer but we'll just keep our heads down and do what we've been doing – going about our business," said Forrest.

"It's a nice feeling winning and if you do it many times, it becomes a very good habit to get into.

"The lads are hungry, they like being at the club and they're enjoying their football, which is one of the most important things.

"It's not rocket science. The players keep working hard, they keep the energy levels high and the momentum going, so while it looks easy when you win a run of games, there is always so much effort going in behind the scenes."

The Cobbydalers opened up a four-point gap at the summit of their division before last weekend's knockout diversion and return to league action today (at home to sixth-placed Cheadle Town) with that advantage intact.

That will help as they look to do battle on several fronts as they can maintain their concentration on each game, rather than worry about what their rivals are doing.

"We went into the league break in a very healthy position, so we knew that we could give it our all and we had the confidence that our great start had given us," said Forrest.

"We didn't feel that it was a frustration that we had a cup game and we didn't have to think what might happen if someone overtook us in the league. We knew that we wouldn't have to start playing catch-up.

"I want to win every game and for us to put a good performance in. We'll be looking at all the competitions as a whole and hoping to progress to keep the momentum going because that will help to keep the confidence going."
