NEWS has broken today that campaigners fighting the waste-to-energy incinerator plant plans for Marley will get their day in court.

Aire Valley Against Incineration has reported its application has been accepted for a judicial review of Bradford Council's decision to approve proposals by Endless Energy Ltd for the site off the A650.

A statement on its Facebook page said: "The case has also been designated as 'significant' – this means it is getting the serious attention it deserves.

"Although we do not yet have a date, we know the case will be heard in Leeds. We will, of course, let everybody know when a date has been set. But for now, the campaign continues to gain momentum.

"We would like to mark this exciting development by inviting our supporters to display one of our 'not for sale' boards, so we can keep the campaign in the public eye. We have about 30 available on a first come, first served basis. It doesn’t matter whether you live on the main road, a cul-de-sac or a hilltop farm. Please get in touch with Penny via e-mail at notforsale@avai.org.uk, contact Rachel on 01535 664933, or message us via Facebook and we’ll arrange with you to receive one.

"This is also a good time to show your support via car stickers if you haven’t already got some! Thank you all for your continued support."

The total raised by AVAI to fund its campaign currently stands at £28,792.

It is holding its next public meeting from 7.30pm to 9pm on October 2 at Central Hall in Alice Street, Keighley.

A spokesman added: “Keighley MP John Grogan will also be speaking at the meeting and will be able to answer questions people have for him.”

Opponents of the controversial application argue it will inflict harmful pollution on the Aire Valley and its surroundings, and will blight the landscape.

But Endless Energy has said the facility will provide an environmentally-friendly form of energy, while conforming to strict European emission standards.
