KEIGHLEY Quakers are taking part in a national initiative.

They are supporting annual Quaker Week, which starts on Saturday, September 30, with a series of activities.

The theme of this year's event is 'In Turbulent Times: Be A Quaker'.

"We use the week to inform local people about Quakers and our way of life," said a spokesman for the Keighley group.

"It is a welcoming faith community committed to working for peace, integrity and equality.

"We believe that everyone is unique and special and we welcome everybody – those of faith or none."

Keighley Quakers have recently taken part in a demonstration against an arms fair in London and supported protesters from CND, the Campaign Against the Arms Trade and Veterans for Peace UK.

As part of Quaker Week, an art display is being held at the Meeting House, in Strawberry Street, from September 30 until October 8.

It will feature work by Keighley artist Deborah Rehmat.

A viewing evening takes place on Tuesday, October 3, at 7.30pm. For other opening times check Facebook or call 01274 566143.

There will be an information display at Keighley Library, from October 2.

And on Wednesday, October 4, at the Meeting House, from 7.30pm to 8pm, people are invited to join in a silent evening meeting for worship. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards.
