WITH autumn upon us and the evenings getting darker there will never be a better time to come down to your cinema and see some of the fantastic movies that are just round the corner.

But firstly I’d like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who came to support us during our McMillan coffee morning to help support the care of people with cancer and also help their families.

We all had a great morning of fundraising, and have so far collected a total of £125 for what is definitely a brilliant cause.

Have you ever wondered where the classic, much-loved story of Winnie the Pooh originally came from?

Goodbye Christopher Robin (PG), is released in UK cinemas this week and it tells the story of the relationship between author AA Milne and his son, who inspired the enduring Winnie the Pooh stories.

This looks like the perfect family film to get you set for the autumn.

It stars Domhnall Gleeson as AA Milne, Margot Robbie as Daphne de Sélincourt, AA Milne’s wife and Kelly Macdonald as Olive, Christopher Robin’s nanny.

With its UK release also set for September 29, Flatliners (15) sees five medical students, obsessed by what lies beyond the confines of life, embarking on a recklessly daring experiment.

By stopping their hearts for short periods, each triggers what is effectively a near-death experience – giving them a first hand account of the afterlife.

But once they take their turns in flatlining to see these visions, dark secrets and side effects of the past come along to haunt them.

This movie, which has been dubbed a “science fiction, psychological horror, action comedy film”, will be a sequel to the 1990 film of the same name.

The trailer for this one looks great. It reminded me of Inception which also saw Ellen Page in a lead role, so for all you Action, Sci-fi and Drama fans alike this one shouldn’t disappoint.

This film also stars Kiefer Sutherland, (who starred in the 1990 film) James Norton, Diego Luna and Thomas Haden Church.

Just a week later we will see the release of Blade Runner 2049, where Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what is left of society into chaos.

His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

The cast also includes Jared Leto, Edward James Olmos and Barkhad Abdi.

The concept of developing a sequel to the acclaimed, original Blade Runner film was actually put forward as far back as 1999, though the idea had to be shelved due to problems concerning the rights to the novel.

This is just a taste of some of the films due to hit the big screen in the next few weeks.

There promises to be something for everyone, so I hope to see you all tucking in to your delicious popcorn and enjoying the show.

Did you know we also have a party room at the Picture House?

This venue can be hired from as little as £20 in conjunction with any public film screening.

It is a perfect way to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions, so if you are interested and would like more information just pop down and have a chat with one of our cinema team.
