A DRAMA about a successful man having to confront his past is coming to West Yorkshire Playhouse’s Courtyard Theatre.

The production, called “(the fall of) The Master Builder”, which is a Zinnie Harris adaptation of a classic Ibsen work, opens on September 30.

Directed by West Yorkshire Playhouse artistic director James Brining (Ode to Leeds, Enjoy, The Crucible), this new play sees the unquestionably successful architect Halvard Solness achieve the admirable Master Builder Award, arriving at the pinnacle of his career.

His beautiful wife still loves him, his beautiful secretary still flirts with him and Prince Charles is coming to open his newest building tomorrow.

Then a knock at the door propels Solness’ past into everyone’s future. The only way is down!

The playhouse’s associate artist Reece Dinsdale (Richard III, Alan Bennett’s Untold Stories, West Yorkshire Playhouse) takes the title role.

Susan Cookson (Romeo and Juliet, West Yorkshire Playhouse), Michael Peavoy (Sweeney Todd, West Yorkshire Playhouse & Manchester Royal Exchange), Robert Pickavance (James and the Giant Peach, West Yorkshire Playhouse), David Hounslow (This House, National Theatre), Emma Naomi (Dead Don’t Floss, National Theatre), and Katherine Rose Morely (Last Tango in Halifax, BBC One) join the rest of the cast.

The play runs from September 30 until October 21.
