FOLLOWING a string of record-breaking rescue efforts, Yorkshire Cat Rescue has launched a new fundraising drive.

In 2016, Yorkshire Cat Rescue found homes for nearly 900 cats and kittens, an unwanted record it looks set to break for the third year running.

Charity founder Sara Atkinson said: "We enjoy a huge amount of support from volunteers and foster families. But we desperately need more funds to pay the bills that come with the level of care we provide. Hard work alone sadly isn't enough to keep us going."

In April, Yorkshire Cat Rescue took on 22 cats living in squalid conditions and all suffering from a highly contagious fungal infection.

More than four months later, most of the cats are still undergoing treatment, a mission that has so far cost the charity thousands.

In August, the charity agreed to take responsibility for a staggering 44 kittens and their mums who were found living outside in Dewsbury. Yorkshire Cat Rescue is paying all their vet and food bills.

Sara said: "We receive no Government funding and really need the community to help us this autumn.

"Even people who don't like cats benefit from our work in trying to reduce the number of stray cats living on their doorstep."

Fundraising packs are available for everyone to collect from the charity's centre in Cross Roads, and from its shops in Keighley and Halifax.
