CAMPAIGNERS who have fought tooth and nail against the planned waste-to-energy incinerator in Keighley are understandably jubilant.

They must have thought Christmas had arrived three months early when the news came through this week that they had won their battle for a judicial review.

Even the most optimistic of those who vehemently oppose the siting of the controversial plant at Marley must have had some doubts over whether they would have their day, or days, in court.

But their dream has become a reality.

Of course, a battle may have been won, but the 'war' is certainly not over.

Endless Energy, the company behind the scheme, although clearly disappointed with the decision, has reiterated its commitment to providing an energy facility.

And whilst the Aire Valley Against Incineration campaign has grown and become increasingly vocal, it shouldn't be forgotten that there are those who support the proposal.

Plus there are no guarantees about which way the ultimate decision will swing.

However, that said, this week's ruling represents a massively significant step forward for the campaign group.

It has mushroomed from modest roots into a powerful lobbying force, which has continued to gather support – from both ordinary residents and politicians.

If ever an example was needed of how 'people power' can have an influence, this is surely it.
