THIS birds-eye view of a pre-war garage was probably used for advertising, and is thought to show the interior of Fred Binns (Keighley) Ltd, motor engineers and agents.
Developing his business in tune with the growing motor-car industry, Fred Binns opened his first garage at Utley in the early 1920s, subsequently moving to Market Street and then Hanover Street.
Shortly after moving again to South Street in 1936, his firm was being hailed as “one of the largest engaged in automotive sales-and-servicing in the Keighley area”, acting as main agents for Humber and Hudson terra-plane cars. Trial runs were arranged for prospective customers.
When Fred Binns died aged 81 in 1980, he was one of the oldest members of Keighley Golf Club, with which he had been associated since boyhood when he had been a caddie for twopence a round!
