A BRAITHWAITE school has won lottery cash to start a soccer academy with Bradford City Football Club.
Merlin Top Primary Academy will launch its soccer school this tea-time (September 28) with hour-long sessions at its Braithwaite Avenue campus.
A school spokesman said the academy, funded through the Awards For All scheme, will provide a clear pathway for local talent.
He said: “Once established, we hope to have games against other academies, local teams and Bradford City Academy.
“Our emphasis is on developing through enjoyment. We provide a ball per player each week to work on individual skills, including ball control, passing and dribbling.
“The children will be encouraged to express themselves in an enjoyable environment. We provide indoor and outdoor facilities.”
The cost is £1, and sessions will be run by qualified Football Association coaches.
