A MAN who died after being struck by a train near Bradford Interchange was a 23-year-old from Keighley, British Transport Police have confirmed this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the main line near the Mill Lane signal box just after 9am yesterday, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police, who have been leading the investigation into the incident, said: "British Transport Police officers attended the line close to Bradford’s Mill Lane Junction signal box on Sunday after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“The incident was reported to police at 9.04am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from West Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The coroner has now been informed."

The identity of the man is yet to be confirmed.

Mill Lane Junction is located just outside the Interchange, where the line to Leeds diverges from the line to Halifax.

The coroner, who presides over the case, will decide if a jury will be required for the inquest into the man’s death.

West Yorkshire Police had initially said a police incident had resulted in trains being temporarily suspended on the Bradford to New Pudsey line.

A spokesman then confirmed a body had been located on land near Mill Lane, describing the location as “very close to the train line”.

There was a police presence at Bradford Interchange at about 10am, with Network Rail response vehicles also in attendance.

From the bridge over the line in Caledonia Street in Bradford, a police car and private ambulance could be seen in a car park next to the station, accessed from Britannia Street.

The ambulance left the scene accompanied by police shortly after 11am.

Services between Bradford Interchange and New Pudsey began operating again at about 10.30am, with minor disruption continuing until midday.
