BY REMOTE chance there were no local derby ties in the first round of the West Riding County Cup for sides in the Bradford area – but supporters can look forward to three in the second round.

In the first week of next month, the county's most prestigious knockout competition will see Brighouse Town host last season's Evo-Stik League Division One North neighbours Farsley Celtic.

The Celts gained promotion via the play-offs, so are now a division higher, and that will fuel Town's desire to knock the holders out.

Thackley won through the first round on penalties after their home tie against Glasshoughton Welfare ended 1-1. Their prize for that 3-1 spot-kick victory is a home clash with National League outfit FC Halifax Town, the Shaymen having enjoyed a bye in the first round.

The third derby in the next round sees Albion Sports hosting Campion, who were beaten 4-1 at Harrogate Town in the quarter-finals last season. That was Campion's first venture in the senior County Cup as they stepped up onto the football pyramid system.

Other second-round ties include National League outfit Guiseley travelling to Albion's Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division counterparts Garforth Town.

National North side Bradford Park Avenue, meanwhile, make the trip to Campion's NCE League Division One rivals Selby Town.

Silsden were fortunate to receive a bye in the first round but were unlucky to be drawn away in the second.

They are still waiting to find out who they will face as Barnoldswick Town and last season's beaten finalists Tadcaster Albion have yet to play. They are due to meet on Tuesday, October 24.

There will definitely be at least one derby in the quarter-finals as the winner of the Brighouse versus Farsley tie will make the short trip to either Albion or Campion.

That scenario could throw up an anomaly if Albion and the Celts both win through as Farsley would be 'away' at their Throstle Nest home as they ground-share with Albion.

Should Avenue triumph at Selby, they will also have a derby in the last eight as they will travel to either Thackley or Halifax. Silsden would host Guiseley if both safely negotiate their next ties.
