COUNCILLORS in Oxenhope agreed to accept draft terms of reference for a new committee to help look after the village's Rose Garden.

They were presented with the terms at their monthly meeting last Wednesday. (Oct 11)

The parish council is pursuing plans to improve this public space, which is at the junction of Station Road and Hebden Bridge Road.

It has previously agreed in principle proposals which would involve turning part of the Rose Garden into a paved square with new seating.

Plots would be set aside as general grassed leisure areas and a rectangular section would become a dedicated rose garden.

All trees and shrubs around the perimeter, with the exception of the current cherry trees, would be replaced with new cherry trees.

At their latest meeting, councillors agreed the new Rose Garden committee would comprise at least three parish councillors.

They would make recommendations to the full parish council to promote and develop the use of this space, to recommend an annual budget for the garden, to research sources of grant funding and to oversee the maintenance of the garden.

Councillors also accepted that Christmas lights decorations for this coming festive season will be displayed on the existing conifers in the Rose Garden.
