MORE volunteers are needed to ensure Oxenhope Youth Club has a long-term future.

The call was made by Councillor Penny Cusdin at a meeting of Oxenhope Parish Council.

She said: "My fundamental concern is the lack of volunteers we have at the moment to continue the youth club as a constituted group in its own right.

"I've expressed this concern to Bradford Council Youth Service and I'm awaiting their response as to what they can do about it.

"We particularly need more male volunteers to come forward, as right now we only have one."

Fellow councillor Robert Goulding stressed the value of the club, noting that his own daughter has started attending the group and loves it.

He pointed out how it helps Oxenhope youngsters keep in touch with each other once they leave the village primary school and scatter to different secondary schools.

Oxenhope Primary head teacher John Parkin, who was also at the council meeting, said he would ask school parents if they would be interested in getting involved with the youth club.

People prepared to volunteer can contact the district council's youth service on 01274 431485.
