TRIBUTES have been paid to everyone who ensured the success of a well-attended charity night in Silsden.

About 250 people attended the Suzy's Charity Event", at Sunnybank Social Club, on Saturday (Oct 14) in memory of Keighley-born woman Susan Bowness.

Mrs Bowness, died last December aged 54 of an illness called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. (IPF) The event at the Sunnybank Social Club was organised by her family to raise money for the charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Mrs Bowness's daughter, Sarah Smith, who lives in Sutton, said the final fundraising total from the night was still being counted, but added that the auction alone had generated £1,775.

The evening also featured performances by the band Uncle Frank, singer Ellie Carpendale, as well as a pie and pea supper and a raffle.

Mrs Smith said: "It was amazing, the place was packed and we've got an incredible amount of charity money to count up.

"Silsden Majorettes opened the night by dancing to Fight Song, which is the official song of the IPF awareness campaign.

"All the performers were fantastic and Uncle Frank got everyone up and dancing.

"I also want to thank Neil Jordan, from Silsden, who was a very close friend of my mum's. He compered the event."

Mrs Smith's mother was originally from Bracken Bank, but later moved to Silsden.

She was known as Sue or Suzy and had been a cook at Skipton Swimming Baths before more recently working as a cook at Keighley's Dragon's Den children's amusement centre.
