THE Aire-Wharfe League could allow the visiting captain to choose whether to bowl first in 2018 in a bid to promote better pitches.

Olicanian's proposal, which was seconded by Otley at the league's council meeting at Otley RUFC, will therefore go forward to the annual meeting at the same venue on Tuesday, November 28.

Olicanian also proposed, seconded by Bilton, that no bowler should bowl more than ten overs per innings, while Bolton Villas' proposal that leg-side wides no longer be applicable in first-team matches was also seconded.

"We are looking at shortening games and this can add five to six overs to a match," was their reasoning.

Olicanian's proposal that free hits be brought into league matches was seconded by Otley, while the management committee are proposing that it also be brought in for cup matches.

Olicanian also want loan players to be allowed if they are over 19.

The only resolution of the evening league was that umpires' fees should be £39 for 100-over matches, £35 for 90-over matches, £31 for 80-over matches and £16 for T20 matches.

It was passed 30-1 and will therefore be applied for the 2018 season.

Alwoodley and Bolton Villas were both unanimously re-elected.
