KATE BUSH famously sang of Heathcliff in her 1970s hit single Wuthering Heights.

Now there’s a new Heathcliff in the music world, in the shape of former Oakbank School student Isaac Tyler.

Isaac’s publicists have described him as a “modern Heathcliff” with a broody, aching voice and songs to match.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter has become a rising star in the music industry after releasing well-received singles, and he is tipped as “one to watch” in 2018.

Isaac, who also studied at Keighley Musicians Centre, spent two years in the development phase with Harrogate record label Ont’ Sofa.

In April he released the first of four singles this year, with two charting on the itunes singer/songwriters chart.

He caught the attention of Huw Stephens of BBC Introducing, where his first single Give Me Mercy featured on the DJ’s Radio One show.

This first track was also record-of-the-week on the Jericho Keys show on Radio York, and was followed with a Live Session at the station featuring an extended interview and a performance of four of his songs.

A spokesman said: “This is quite a contrast to the young Isaac who was a reluctant, nervous performer in his mid-teens.

“With a voice like butter and an indisputable talent for writing soul-stretching, emotional songs with a maturity well beyond his years, it wasn’t long before he came to the notice of industry mover-and-shaker Jason Odle.”

Isaac landed a record deal a month after his 18th birthday, going on to work with musicians like Lucy Spraggan, The Hoosiers, Skinny Living, Billie Marten, The Dunwells, Sam Brookes, Beth McCarthy, Scott Quinn, Rupert Stroud and George Holliday.

Isaac’s latest project has been to co-write a song for the Dunwells, singing on the track too, as part of the band’s latest EP, released earlier this month on Spotify and itunes.

Isaac will perform in York on December 16 as part of Radio York’s BBC Introducing Christmas Children in Need event.

He will perform on Sunday, December 17 at an acoustic afternoon in the Brew House, Mill Hey, Haworth.
