ACCLAIMED Bradford-raised choreographer, Balbir Singh, is returning to the city for the first time in a decade.

Together with the Balbir Singh Dance Company, he will present a double bill of dance, live music, BMX and a chef cooking on stage.

The show, featuring Champion Of The Flatlands and Love & Spice, will be at the Kala Sangam Arts Centre on December 16.

Having grown up amongst the many rich cultures of Manningham in Bradford, Balbir Singh left the city to study at Northern School of Contemporary Dance before forging an internationally-renowned career creating work that fuses traditional south Asian art and contemporary dance and music.

The company is renowned for its ability to engage audiences who have little or no previous experience of the performing arts.

Champion Of The Flatlands tells a classic boy-meets-girl story though a fusion of two very different worlds – BMX ‘flatlands’ cycling and dance. Love & Spice follows a couple looking back on their lives, reliving memories through meals they have shared.

The evening will also feature a short performance by a group of young people from Community Works in Barkerend, who have been working with both companies to develop a new piece of dance.
