TRAE O'Sullivan says he will not get complacent at Keighley Cougars after being handed the club's number ten shirt.

O'Sullivan signed for the Cougars on a permanent basis at the end of the season, after an impressive spell on loan from Batley Bulldogs.

The prop will be wearing his position's traditional number ten next year, but he is not getting carried away with the privilege.

"There's a lot of good players here so it doesn't matter what shirt number you're given. It's about putting in the effort and the work," O'Sullivan said.

"It's nice to get number ten. I'm thankful and I'm happy to be given it.

"But it doesn't guarantee me a starting spot. I've still got to put the work in and prove myself."

O'Sullivan only arrived at Cougar Park in July, but says it didn't take much to persuade him to stay.

He said: "I felt at home and the fans took to me well, so it was an easy decision. I didn't take too much convincing."

And after an admittedly "disappointing" time at Batley, he's prepared to get stuck into plenty of unfinished business with Keighley.

"We want to push for the top five this year," he said.

"I know a club like Keighley really want to be playing in the Championship so we'll give it a good crack, hopefully get in that top five and give it a good shot.

"Obviously we didn't make it last year and I got injured and missed some games as well."

O'Sullivan admitted: "When I came here, I wasn't very fit and I was lagging behind.

"But the training I did at Batley was always good and hopefully being in that environment there will have put me in good stead for this year.

"My injury is getting better. We're doing some work on it with the physios and I'm putting the work in, which is all I can do really.

"I feel I can bring a bit extra to the team this year. Hopefully I'll be a bit fitter and show what else I can do.

"I have trust in Craig Lingard and the other coaches too, to improve me as a player."
