KEIGHLEY music promoter Saby Khan has received an award for his latest venture as a radio presenter.

Former Keighley College student Saby, real name Sabir Hussain, this year began regular broadcasts on the Bradford Asian Radio station.

Bradford Council, which supports the station, recently gave a Best Radio Presenter of 2017 award to the hip-hop specialist and racial equality campaigner.

The accolade came soon after Saby returned from Pakistan where he played a villain during shooting of the movie Jackpot with Bollywood star Javed Sheikh.

He said: “I was shocked when my name was announced at the Best Presenter for my Bollywood to Bradford radio show at the award ceremony at Jinnah restaurant in Bradford.

“On my show I have brought on Bollywood actors and directors, MPs, councillors and local musicians. It was this combination of diversity which Bradford Council enjoyed.

“I have over one million listeners on my show across UK, United Arab Emirates and South Asia. I’m looking to bring in the actors and actresses from Jackpot in March 2018.”

Saby said five of Bradford Asian Radio’s 20 presenters were given awards, including Bhangra DJ Gurjeet Kaur for Best Multi-Religious show.

Saby, who lives in Highfield, is a hip-hop promoter who began by organising daytime Asian music events for Keighley College students.

In recent years he has regularly jetted to Dubai to organise similar music nights at leading nightclubs.

On his Bradford Asian Radio show Saby has interviewed rappers Fonzi and Hammy, boxer Tasif Khan and UK model Allissia Moretti.
