Three members of the same family appeared in court today (Dec 19) on charges relating to the Tyron Charles murder inquiry and other alleged offences.

Husband and wife Kevin and Janet Sutcliffe, aged 60 and 61, appeared in the dock alongside their son James Sutcliffe, 28, all of Hill Crest Road, Denholme.

All three have been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to the police probe into Mr Charles' death.

In a separate development, they have also been charged with possession of extreme pornography.

James Sutcliffe, who was wearing a grey tracksuit and was already in custody after being charged with the murder of Mr Charles in September, has also now been charged with an offence of voyeurism.

No pleas were entered during the hour-long hearing at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court.

During the hearing, Paul Ramsay, prosecuting, asked the magistrates to remand Kevin and Janet Sutcliffe in custody ahead of appearing at Bradford Crown Court next year.

Ansar Khan, defending, asked for the couple to be granted conditional bail.

He said: “Both were arrested on October 11 and granted police bail.

“They reported to Keighley police station daily and also attended Normanton police station when asked to do so.”

After consideration, chairman of the bench Ian Carling told the pair they would be remanded in custody. He said: “You are going to be held in custody.”

Kevin Sutcliffe, dressed in a blue cardigan and chequered shirt, and Janet Sutcliffe, dressed in a brown hooped jumper, were led away flanked by three security guards. Along with James Sutcliffe, they are due to appear at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, January 15, 2018.

A major police search was started after Mr Charles, who was last seen on September 6, went missing. Police conducted thorough searches of Doe Park Water Activities Centre in Denholme and Oxenhope moor in the search for the 29-year-old father, of Unity Street South, Bingley. Sniffer dogs from Northumbria Police were also called in to assist with the search.

After five weeks, on Wednesday, October 11, a body was found on moorland close to Nab Water Lane in Oxenhope, which was later confirmed to be that of Mr Charles. An inquest heard Mr Charles died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

James Sutcliffe previously appeared at Bradford Crown Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Charles.
