Hallmark Security League Division One: Silsden 6 Chadderton 0

SILSDEN bounced back in style from an insipid display at title rivals Litherland with a resounding Boxing Day triumph.

Having not played for over a month, a rusty Cobbydalers were beaten for only the second time in the league last Saturday.

But normal service was resumed on Tuesday as Chris Wademan bagged a hat-trick in an emphatic victory.

After Josh Kaine had cleared an early attack, a superb run by Matty Moses set up Niall Sultan, whose shot was cleared for a corner.

Joe Gaughan, having waited five weeks for a one-match ban to be served, was like a coiled spring waiting to be released. Six minutes into the game, the division’s leading marksman headed the corner home.

A minute later Wademan made it two when he weaved his way through the defence before curling the ball wide of the Chadderton keeper.

Wademan’s pace was a constant threat and he went close to adding another following a one-two with Moses. Craig Bentham nearly added a third before an effort from Gaughan was blocked.

A third goal wasn’t long in coming. Gaughan spread a reverse pass to Mateusz Tomas who picked out Wademan’s run into the Chadderton box and the frontman made it three after 16 minutes with a superb goal.

Mark Trueman was next to free Wademan on the run. The ball was switched to Gaughan, whose shot was saved by Jordan Latham.

Trueman was narrowly wide with a 30-yard free-kick before Sultan was replaced by Charlie Holt as a precaution against further damage to a slight injury.

On 28 minutes Holt crossed to Gaughan who, after seeing his first header parried by Latham, followed up to make it 4-0.

Whenever Chadderton crossed the half-way line, they found Arley Barnes blocking their path. When he was eventually beaten, they were met with a resolute Silsden defence.

Arron Scholes and Iilube Ferrvigan combined to set up a chance for Jordan Matthews but the outstanding Kaine cleared the danger.

Scholes then burst down the right and slid the ball across goal but Connor Naughton couldn’t quite get a touch on it.

The second half lacked the intensity of the first with both sides finding the pitch heavy, particularly having both played on Saturday.

Jordan Matthews went close as Silsden became casual. Kaine cleared a shot from Devon Matthews off the line.

The hosts netted a fifth goal on 58 minutes when Gaughan set up Tomas for his second and Wademan clinched his hat-trick after 60 minutes when he outpaced the defence.

Holt almost made it seven before keeper Callum Jakovlevs made a superb save to tip Matthews' pile-driver over the bar.

Wademan could have had a fourth and sub Nicky McNally was denied twice when in the clear.

At the other end Ferrvigan hit the far post as the visitors were denied a consolation.

Silsden's victory left them 12 points clear at the top ahead of their trip to Sandback on Saturday.

They should be boosted by the return of Dan Illingworth (work) and Kyle Hancock (suspension) to strengthen the squad.

SILSDEN: Jakovlevs, Moses, Kendall, Kaine, Bentham, Trueman, Barnes, Tomas (Forrest 69), Wademan (McNally 69), Sultan (Holt 22).
