MEMBERSHIP of a stroke support group in Silsden increased during 2017 thanks to people attending from as far away as Skipton and Ilkley.

The group, run by lead volunteer Grace Summersgill, takes place regularly at Silsden Methodist Church and is for both people who have experienced a stroke and their carers.

The success of the group was highlighted recently in a report to Keighley Area Committee looking at how its officers have been supporting voluntary organisations across the constituency.

A committee spokesman said: “The group offers information, advice, and organises a range of activities that focus on encourage movement and speech. Trips out are organised by arrangement.

“The group is supported by Silsden Methodist Church, Creative Support and the Later Life Cobbydale mutual support network. There is a focus on helping people in later life, health issues and social well-being.”
