SPEED Watch operations in Wilsden involving police and residents have been praised by a parish councillor.

Cllr Peter Allison highlighted the anti-speeding initiative during the latest meeting of SCAPAG, a Bradford Council-organised discussion group bringing together village representatives from across Shipley constituency.

Cllr Allison asked whether it would be possible to provide more Police Community Support Officers in the villages, despite limited police resources.

Inspector Julie Deacon replied that three of the 15 PCSOs in the Shipley area were allocated to Bingley Rural, and that officers could be swapped around where required.

The meeting discussed using parish councils as coordinating groups for Neighbourhood Watch, especially in villages where there was a police and community Contact Point.

Inspector Deacon responded that the area’s Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator had considered the idea and would contact parish councils in due course.
