AIRE AND Worth Valley Wanderers are putting their best feet forward for a new series of local rambles.

The walking group is inviting local people to join them as they explore hidden gems of the two river valleys.

Walkers will learn about the local and natural history of the routes in the Keighley and Bingley.

The walks are carried out in conjunction with Champions Show the Way, an NHS project to improve local people’s health.

Walks take place on Thursday afternoons, starting at 1.30pm and last no more than 3½ miles. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

The walks are aimed at people with reasonably good mobility, and some include hill climbing and uneven surfaces.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing (not jeans) and suitable footwear, and take a waterproof coat and drink.

Most of the walks will be circular, but some will be linear with a bus ride needed before or after.

The first walk will be on January 11, a Riddlesden circular starting from the swing bridge on Bar Lane and including the canal towpath and the riverside path behind East Riddlesden Hall.

Micklethwaite circular on January 16, starts from the swing bridge on Micklethwaite Lane and features the canal towpath, road walking, and footpaths through woods and fields, including uphill and muddy stretches.

Parkwood Circular on January 25, starts from outside Keighley railway station and includes a steep ascent and descent as well as footpaths through woods and fields.

Another Riddlesden circular, on February 1, again sets off from the swing bridge on Bar Lane, this time taking in the canal towpath, footpaths through fields, and snickets.
