SCHOOLS and youth groups in deprived areas of the district are being offered the chance of cut-price breaks for young people.

YHA (England and Wales) is seeking applications for its educational support programme, which covers half the cost of accommodation and food for eight-to-18-year-olds staying at its youth hostels.

Youngsters who live in severe poverty, have additional challenges and are eligible for pupil premium can take advantage of the scheme.

Their visit should be as part of a stay by a school party or recognised youth group.

Up to ten young people can stay for a maximum of two nights at a choice of hostels, including the site at Longlands Hall, in Lees Lane, Haworth.

"We are determined to help change the lives of young people who need – and will benefit from – our support the most," said James Blake, for YHA.

"The educational support programme aims to ensure young people with challenging lives are the very ones that will have the opportunity to access a life-enhancing stay with us, benefitting their health and wellbeing. I would encourage every school or youth group to apply."

Applications are open until January 31.
