FREEZING conditions failed to stop a Keighley man carrying out an outdoors run in aid of Manorlands wearing little more than shorts and a mankini.

David Powis, a sales assistant at Nelsons Builders Merchant, completed the run in the grounds of his own workplace this afternoon. (Jan 17)

He had sought sponsorship from work colleagues in return for sticking to his own January personal fitness regime, which he is using to raise cash for the hospice.

But he explained that his colleagues offered to give him even more sponsorship cash if he did a challenge they could also watch.

Mr Powis, 55, of Nessfield Drive, said: "I ran for about 10 minutes outside in our yard, just wearing my mankini, shorts, a warm hat and a high visibility jacket.

"It wasn't too bad at first, but I was feeling the cold a bit by the end!

"I had cancer myself when I was 17, so I know this was well worth it and for a really good cause.

"One man who works at the yard has given £50, and in total I've had about £300 pledged so far.

"I'm continuing my fundraising fitness challenge till the end of this month. I'm doing a lot of running, walking, and also press ups at home."

People can support his effort for Manorlands by contributing to his collection tin at Nelsons Builders Merchant, in Gresley Road.
