A PLANNED activity and camping centre for Scouts in Keighley could be in line for a substantial grant from Keighley Town Council.

The agenda for this Thursday evening's (Jan 25) meeting of the town council includes a finance and audit committee recommendation to provide the facility intended for the former Riddlesden Golf Course with £10,036.

If approved, the money would go to Keighley District Scout Council, for "accessibility improvements and sanitary facilities" at the site.

The recommendation comes from the town council's finance and audit committee meeting of January 15.

Scout leaders have already secured planning permission for their centre off Elam Wood Road, on what is now the disused golf course.

Their project, called Low Wood Scout Activity Centre, will also include re-use of the existing club house, turning two semi detached houses into bunk house accommodation for visiting Scouts, and the installation of a static caravan for site warden accommodation.

Walkers will still be able to use three public rights of way which pass through the site.
