CAMPION came away from York St John University with a 2-1 victory over i2i International Academy in the Flexible Football West Riding County FA Under-21 Floodlit League.

The academy side started the better, stroking the ball around well in the first ten minutes without creating too many clear-cut chances. But Campion grew into the game and took the lead through Jahro Parchment after he finished a flick-on following a corner.

Campion, pressing their opponents into hitting the ball long, also had the better of the second half, with man of the match Parchment finishing Matthias Britton's cross from close range.

i2i pulled one back late, making for a tense final 15 minutes when Kyle Trennery missed a penalty for Campion.

However, manager Louis Etienne said: "We were top-drawer from start to finish and reaped the rewards of hard work in training as we ran them into the ground, pressing the ball high and stifling their possession-based drills."
