THE IMMIGRATION Bill is crucial to a post-Brexit UK and must be brought forward immediately, says Shipley’s MP.
Philip Davies has demanded to know when the long-awaited legislation would be discussed in Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament, he said: “Recent statements from the Home Secretary would suggest there has been some backsliding on the potential timescale for this important piece of legislation.
“So can the Leader of the House tell us when we can expect to see the Immigration Bill before the House.”
This week ministers admitted a post-Brexit plan may not be ready by March 2019.
Commons leader Andrea Leadsom said: “We are determined to make a success of leaving the European Union and all legislation that is necessary to ensure that is the case will be brought forward as soon as we need to do that.”
Mr Davies said the public voted to leave the European Union because they wanted Government to clamp down on immigration and urged ministers to act to ensure the needs of Britain are put first and the March deadline for legislation be met.
