AN opticians in Keighley has been recognised for the efforts it puts into motivating and supporting its staff.

The town's branch of Specsavers has been awarded Health and Wellbeing Practice of the Year at the annual Association of Optometrists (AOP) awards, which took place in London.

The award acknowledges practices that understand the important role that health and wellbeing can play in terms of job satisfaction.

Activities that contributed to the Keighley store’s win included developing a "mental strength tool kit", designed to get rid of the stigma surrounding mental health issues and creating an environment where team members can talk without fear.

Raj Gill, store director at Specsavers in Keighley, said: "To me, building a culture of transparency, trust and support is key.

"It is great for the team to be acknowledged by our industry peers for their commitment to make this a happy and healthy environment for everyone to work in.

"I love the unity of the team, and we’ve spent time encouraging team bonding. There is always an open door, an open mind and an open ear to listen. "The aim is to provide everyone with the opportunity to be more mindful of the beautiful world around them and not just to run on autopilot."
