LIAM the Leprechaun is the star attraction at a St Patrick’s Day fundraising event at St Ives.

Contestants in the Shamrock Shuffle will try to find the leprechaun as he drops golden coins around the estate near Harden.

Proceeds of the Shamrock Shuffle 5K fun run will be split between the Manorlands hospice and Rotary Club of Bradford West’s charities.

The event will be on Saturday, March 17 at 11am.

Organisers are inviting both runners and those who would rather “shuffle” around the course tracking green guy Liam as the chocolate coins are dropped.

A spokesman said: “As it will be St Patrick’s Day the organisers are asking participants to wear something green, and each will receive a St Paddy’s hat.” Entry is £15 for adults and move forward £10 for under-16s, and medals will be given.

Car parking will be on Harden Cricket ground and Woodbank Garden Centre.

People are advised to go along early to register and prepare for the 11am start.

Refreshments will be available in Harden Cricket pavilion and water will be provided around the course from the marshalls.

The Shamrock Shuffle is held in several American cities to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, including Chicago, where it is one of the city’s favourite events, weaving its way through downtown areas.

The Shamrock Shuffle in Wisconsin brings thousands of people into the city of Milwaukee from across the USA, and last year the event raised $5000 each for the Hunger Task Force and Special Olympics.
