THE latest annual jobs and careers fair will be staged at Keighley College at the beginning of next month.

The college will host the event from 2pm to 6pm on Thursday March 1.

Last year, more than 40 businesses attended the fair with hundreds of jobseekers also present.

Chris Stott, head of business engagement at Keighley College, said: “We are delighted this year to be partnering with Keighley Town Council to run our 2018 Jobs Fair.

"This has become an important date in the business calendar and we are happy to collaborate with the council and its councillors, who will be able to champion the day within their wards and allow greater access to the Keighley community.

“This event not only promotes local businesses in the area, but gives jobseekers a unique opportunity to speak to the businesses directly – often with the managing director – about the roles available, skills required and career paths within the organisations.

"Once again there will be a wide range of full time, part time and apprenticeships on offer during the day.”

Organisers hope the 2pm till 6pm timings for the day should allow for greater access for residents who live in the college's immediate and surrounding areas.

Keighley town mayor, Councillor Mohammed Nazam, said: “The town council is very proud to work with the college on this prestigious event and to promote the needs of residents in the area.

"The day firmly puts Keighley on the map and highlights the large number of specialised businesses we have in the vicinity.

"Ward councillors will be getting involved in publicising this day in their neighbourhoods, giving residents from a wider area the opportunity to participate and seek employment.

"There is a huge skills base required by businesses in and around Keighley, and this is a fantastic chance for people to see the variety of careers available.”

Last year the event had over 200 jobs on offer and it is anticipated there will be even more employment opportunities this year.

Mr Stott said: “Over the last few years the college has built up its apprenticeship programme and now offers apprenticeships in a large number of sectors including engineering, health and social care, team leading and management, construction, HGV maintenance and motor vehicles, textiles, hair and beauty and business and IT.

"Although a large number of these courses are taken up by our school leavers there are a wide number of opportunities for those seeking a career change.

"I'd encourage everyone to come down, see what’s on offer and change their future."

People can call the college on 01535 685000, or e-mail enquiries@keighleycollege.ac.uk to find out more information about the day, or to book a stand at the event for their own business.
