TERRY Logan trained at Keighley Art College and later became a student at Bradford College.

After completing his National Service be became a graphic designer and photographer.

He spent eight years in Vancouver as an art director in advertising, returning with his family in 1972 and settling in Skipton.

Limited editions of his paintings were popular, and his work included snow and landscapes, Yorkshire trades and animal studies.

Some of Terry’s paintings were published both inside and on the cover of The Dalesman magazine over many years (see picture, right).

Skipton Auction Market, as depicted here by Terry, appeared on the October 1975 cover of The Dalesman. The man on the right could be a self-portrait.

An unusual image of a saddler at Gargrave was inside the September 1979 issue. Other pictures by Terry used in this publication were often landscapes.

The magazine in those days cost 18 pence, or £3 annually including postage. The editor back then was WR Mitchell.

“Artists of Fame and Promise” at the Alpine Gallery, in London, exhibited Terry’s work, as did other venues around Britain.

Locally, he and his artist wife Lynda have exhibited in Harrogate, at the Devonshire Arms in Cracoe in 1995 and in 1979 at The Workshop, at Mill Bridge, Skipton.

The couple were also involved with galleries in Grassington and Threshfield.

Most of Terry’s work is done in watercolour paint. This means his paintings should not be hung in bright light, as watercolour tends to fade when exposed to these conditions.

Moving onto photography, Terry is the photographer for the Calendar Girls’ fundraiser for charity, which was initially only expected to sell to friends and family.

Instead sales reached 400,000 all over the world. Terry’s wife was Miss July in the calendar.

When the film of the story was made, all the ladies from the calendar were present and Terry acted as consultant.

No less than seven of the photos for the famous calendar were actually taken on one night - October 7 2012.

The final gala fundraiser was held at The Royal Albert Hall. Alan Titchmarsh led the event, in which Terry Logan’s photographs featured heavily.

At Keighley Art Club, regular demonstrations by professional artists are included in our programme.

New members and visitors are welcome and a small charge is levied.

David Starley, Nigel Overton, Matthew Evans and John Harrison are due to visit the club before summer. See our Facebook page for extra details.

On other weeks club members take turns to bring in material for everyone to draw or paint.

Our next Cliffe Castle exhibition will be in February next year, but we have a permanent mini exhibition on display in Keighley’s Picture House cinema.
