A KEIGHLEY man is planning to operate a community food kitchen in the town this Easter.

Sajjad Sadiq, who was behind previous efforts to help both homeless people in West Yorkshire and destitute migrants in Calais, said the meals would be served in Hainworth Wood Community Centre from 10.30am till 3.30pm on Sunday April 1.

"This won't just be for people who are homeless, everyone will be welcome," he explained.

"It'll be about bringing everyone together to have a meal and socialise. We intend to serve both breakfasts and lunches.

"We will need helpers on the day, and the more people who come forward to get involved the better."

He said he had been inspired by the example of an East London based charity, which provides free hot meals to needy people in its own area.

Mr Sadiq, a machine operator from Knowle Park, said his teenage son Mohsin and his son's friend Aamir Mahmood would be among the team volunteering to run the Keighley food kitchen.

He thanked the owners of the community centre for offering the venue for free.
