A SERIES of community clean-ups will be held in Keighley neighbourhoods over the next four months.

The fly-tipping campaign for Keighley Central ward began in Lawkholme last week with a clean-up involving residents and Eastwood School.

The campaign will be rolled out across neighbourhoods including Knowle Park, Highfield, Showfield, Utley and Beechcliffe, alongside ‘days of action’ with support from local residents, organisations and partners.

Bradford Council, which is organising the campaign, said fly tipping incidents in central Keighley had increased, with residents expressing concerns about how the area looked and how local communities were perceived.

The campaign will continue through to July with the key aim of reducing the number of incidents of fly-tipping across the area.

Residents and communities will be given leaflets on how to report fly-tippers, and what information is needed so that they can be dealt with appropriately.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, the council’s Executive Member for Environment, Culture and Sport, declared that fly tipping was not acceptable.

She said: “It has a severe impact on the environment and blights local communities. I hope that this campaign helps residents to understand that they don’t have to put up with this.

“The clear message is to say no to fly-tipping in Keighley Central ward; fly-tipping is everyone’s problem and we all need to take responsibility for keeping our communities clean.”
