COLOURFUL Lives is the name of a new lottery-funded project to be run by Highfield Community Association.
The Keighley group will spend its £9,993 grant from Awards For All on work to support local women’s mental, physical and emotional health and well-being.
Workers will help the women identify and celebrate the important roles they play in homes and society.
Association spokesman Fazeela Hanif said the project would bring together women from hard-to-reach and deprived areas of Keighley.
She said: “This will include women in isolation, suffering in silence, from depression, with mild to moderate mental health, and from any background.
“They will receive support in increasing confidence and self-esteem, building friendships and trust, raising aspirations, enhancing skills, and having a voice and influence.
“They can develop conversations through informal 'conversation cafes' in a comfortable environment enabling them to off-load and talk about issues affecting them.
“Providing a 'relaxing' safe environment for open conversation will allow the forming of friendships, breaking down barriers, and give them the confidence to access other services.”
a voice and influence.
The grant is part of a £9 million payout from the Big Lottery Fund to community projects across Yorkshire and the Humber.
