STUDENTS from the sixth form of University Academy Keighley (UAK) have used their enterprising skills for a good cause.

The year 13 pupils, who are working towards their Level 3 Btec Business Studies qualification, came up with the idea of providing a "Teachers’ Take-away."

The pupils took responsibility for the planning, implementing and running of the event.

Students worked in groups for The Apprentice-style competition, first introducing their idea with a big pitch delivered during a staff briefing where pupil Maryiya Bibi asked: “Who wants to cook at the end of a long day!?”

A spokesman for the school said: "Students then chose their different take-away offerings, negotiated with their providers, produced their marketing and selected and designed their menus.

"They have also brushed up on their customer service skills, taking orders from staff and presenting food stalls for the event.

"Our students not only worked towards their Btec award but learned a lot of valuable skills in areas such as event planning, promotion, working with outside agencies, time management, organisation and sales.

"As a group they achieved over £200 worth of profit, which has been donated to the In-touch Foundation charity food kitchen."
