COMMUNITY leaders have voiced their shock at the death of a four-year-old boy found in an “unresponsive” condition at an address in Keighley.

Police, who are not treating the boy’s death as suspicious, were called by paramedics to a property near Laycock.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers attended and found a four-year-old boy in a caravan.

“He was taken to hospital for further treatment, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and are continuing, although his death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”

Police have not released the child’s name following the incident, which occurred at 6.54pm last Tuesday.

Keighley West ward councillor Cath Bacon said she had been informed by officers that the boy’s death was the result of a “tragic accident”.

“It’s absolutely horrendous and my heart goes out to this little lad’s family,” she added.

“I’m a mum myself and I’ve got grandkids that age. I can’t begin to imagine what the family is going through.”

Cllr Bacon also expressed her support for those police officers who reacted to what had been a “very distressing” situation.

Fellow ward councillor Brian Morris said: “It’s extremely sad and all I can do is offer my sympathies. You never want to have to hear about something like this, whatever the circumstances.”
