A PLANNING application sent to Bradford Council details a range of new improvements intended for Keighley's mainline railway station.

The proposals, submitted by Arriva Rail North, include planned refurbishment work to the waiting rooms on platforms one and two, and installation of two new ticket vending machines.

A heritage statement provided by Strzala Architects as part of the application, says: "The proposed minor alterations for the station aim to provide improved passenger services that enhance the passenger experience and the character of the building.

"The importance of Keighley Station as a Grade II listed building has been a central element of the proposed design.

"Within these proposals we hope to have kept the character of the original design, while providing for the requirements of Northern Rail and the rail travelling public.

"As a result, no structural changes to any listed building fabric are proposed as part of this application."

The new ticket machines would be located in the ticket hall either side of the doors leading to the platforms. One of them will replace the existing single ticket machine.

The platform one and two waiting rooms will be cleaned, repainted and will receive new seating. The larger shelter on platform one will also have new flooring laid down.

The application is currently being considered by Bradford Council planning officers.

Separately, Keighley Railway Station is still due to benefit from a major renovation programme to be carried out by Network Rail by 2020.

This will concentrate on refurbishing the main station building and forecourt canopy, as well as renewing the station footbridge and covered wooden ramps.
