THE SWEET taste of success came to a Glusburn Primary School class due to the children’s high attendance.

Class 9 Year 3 was named champion of the school’s key stage two Attendance League at the end of the spring term.

The winning children each received 20p to use in an old-fashioned sweet dispenser.

Head Richard Hunt said the Attendance League was one of several initiatives introduced at Glusburn School to improve attendance figures.

He said: “The impact has shown a significant increase in attendance in school, as well as a reduction in persistent absentees.

“Each KS2 class has been competing in 'matches' against other KS2 classes over the past half-term, scoring points for the best attendance each week, with bonus points for classes with 100 per cent attendance.

“I am particularly pleased that this class won, due to the changes to staffing they have coped with over the spring term. The children have remained resilient and have always wanted to come to school.”
